Scientists of the institute carry out research on the creation and introduction into production of new scintillation materials, products from them, as well as modern radiometric and spectrometric equipment based on them. Developments of the institute largely determine the current level of technology for obtaining and processing scintillation materials.

The scientific bases of obtaining scintillators with given properties on the basis of oxide, chalcogenide and halide crystals are created. The centers and kinetics of radiation of scintillation materials, their radiation resistance and other parameters, the main directions and features of their use are studied.
